With powers of pantomime, object manipulation, illusion, physical theater, and top-secret ingredients, Matt (sometimes called 'Poki') McCorkle animates the otherwise inanimate.
Born from a hatmaker and an accountant, Matt grew up in the quite town of Sebastopol, CA. Age 5, Matt makes up his own language that only he can understand. Age 10, Matt plays the caterpillar in his school's "Alice in Wonderland" play. Age 16, Matt boldly attends an after school "Circus Club" where he discovers a set of poi. Things speed up a bit. Poi spinning turns to club swinging, which turns to juggling, to unicycling, to mime, to hoop illusions, to--well, you get the point.
From Le Grand Chapiteau (Ecole de Cirque, Bruxelles) to The Lennsic Theater (Santa Fe, NM) up to the Cirque Lab (Bellingham, WA) and back to The Prop Box Studio (Oakland, CA), Matt has certainly knows how to have a good time on a stage. But, his favorite show of all is the one he did for you.
Matt now resides in Vulcantown, an artist warehouse complex in scenic East Oakland, CA. When he's not performing, Matt enjoys watching silent films, riding a bicycle, and awkward conversation.
