Matt ‘Poki’ is fascinated with illusions. A self-taught mime, balancer, and juggler, Poki uses
object illusions to animate umbrellas, hoops, and giant sewing needles.
His unique feats have been seen near and far. An incomplete list is provided for the curious: Le Grand Chapiteau (Ecole de Cirque, Bruxelles), The Lennsic Theater (Santa Fe, NM), the Cirque Lab (Bellingham, WA), the streets of Taiwan, and on stage at The Santa Fe Opera.
In 2010 Poki co-created the feature length performance Button Wagon
with partner Ember Bria. In a brown-on-brown pop-top VW Vanagon, the duo
putted between cities and states delighting audiences in CA, OR, WA, CO, NM and AZ. The show is still touring, so head over to www.buttonwagon.com and see if you can't catch a show!
Born from a hatmaker and an accountant, Matt grew up in the quaint town of Sebastopol, CA. He now resides in the even quainter town of Peñasco, NM.
When he's not performing, Poki enjoys silent films, cooking beans, riding a bicycle, and awkward conversation.
His pet-peeves include cottonballs, interlaced fingers, and pretentious bios. But, just between you and me, Poki has received the following awards:
2008 Corvalis Juggling Festival - Best Renegade Show (Circus Conspiracy)
2009 Burningman "Fire Idol" - 1st place
2009 Portland Juggling Festival - the Bin Linder Award for more inspirational juggler (Circus Conspiracy)
